3 Key ways a programmer can make money

I have had how it is difficult to get a good paying job in this hard economic times as a programmer/ code-guy. I read this post by Josh Kohlbach, founder of http://www.codemyownroad.com and it gives you # key points on what you need to do. Read on…..

3 Quick ways you can start

Here’s my list of three ways you can start making money in a hurry. All three of these ideas you can do in a day, and see results within a week.
Money can be found in abundance both online and offline. All you have to do is think a little creatively and make use of the skills and resources you have at your disposal.

So without further ado, here’s my list of things you can start on today to start earning yourself some
good coin:
1. Freelancing
The first, and best way to start earning money in a hurry as a coder is by freelancing.
There is loads of ways to start freelancing your services, but the first step you should take is setting
up a basic web presence with your broad services and rates.
Next, you need to find where your customers are. Who are you targeting with your services? It’s
best to get really specific about who this person is. Enough so that you can make a list of names and
numbers and start dialing (yes, using the telephone) to see if your services are required.
Other activities to do are things like:

  • Participating in forums
  • Going to small business meetup events
  • Cold emailing people to let them know you’re there.

2. Project coding
This is the second best way to start earning right away. By taking on projects you’re locking
yourself in for a period of time with a certain amount of cash.
Projects can be found all over the place, and even though the following market places are
competitive, you can still find some good projects:

  • Elance
  • oDesk
  • Freelancer

A good tip is to try not to bid the lowest or the highest, but sit somewhere in the middle.
3. Technical eBooks
Yes, eBooks. Stop laughing.
You can make good money with eBooks, and technical resources are in great need. If you know a
technical area quite well and write an in depth ebook on the topic you can easily charge up to $50 a
copy.
Get your eBook up there, accompany it with a screencast or maybe an audio file, and start paying
for advertising via Google Adwords or Facebook Ads. You are just about guaranteed to make
money, and this can really scale if you tweak it well enough.
Good thing about ebooks is that you only have to write it once.

I love this post. Keep it into practice if you are a coder!!
